Greca Durant
My English Composition teachers thought I'd make a good writer, but it never crossed my mind that, one day, I'd turn to writing professionally. With a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree, you'd think I'd be better off building towers and bridges, but circumstances dictate that I be flexible in how I look at careers. I've branched out to teaching and information and library services, having been employed in schools in the Philippines, Tanzania, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, Thailand, England, Germany, Morocco, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka.
I also worked as a journalist/proofreader at BT Options, the premier publishing house in Sri Lanka -- publishers of magazines Explore Sri Lanka, Business Today, and Target -- and producers of corporate journals /newsletters/annual reports such as The Architect (Sri Lanka Institute of Architects), The Chartered Accountant (Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka), Digital Life (Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel), Amathuma (Sri Lanka Telecom), Viyaman (Brandix), Sri Lanka Port Authorities, Sri Lanka Police Yearbook, and more. This job took me to five-star hotels to cover exclusive media events; to beautiful and unique buildings to talk to architects and engineers about design and environmental issues; to very expensive restaurants and boutique hotels to interview celebrity chefs and lifestyle gurus; and of course, it allowed me to write, write and write.
With travel opportunities coming my way several times a year (Sri Lanka was my 10th country-residence; have been moving around Asia, Europe and Africa with my husband and daughter), it's just natural that I'd select Travel as my first Suite 101 writing category. Under it will fall several topics like family adventures, luxury/budget vacations, culinary travels, travel-related illnesses, parenting/raising a child in different locations, education/schools around the world, reading and literature, fashion, music/dance, and a lot more.
Please don't hesitate to contact me; I need your comments to get better, to improve my wares.
